The first artificial kidney, or dialysis machine, was developed by Dr. Willem Kolff in 1943. However, in 1913, the first experiments related to dialysis were conducted by Dr. Abel, Dr. Rowntree, and Dr. Turner. They devised a rudimentary dialysis machine known as the “vividiffusion” apparatus, which laid the groundwork for future developments in renal replacement therapy.
